Adding The Record Label &Website

Stage Six
I used the same image on my advertisement that I used for my CD Digipak. After selecting my image from Bridge, I used the lasso tool to cut around some of the white background. This made the image smaller, and because there is less white background it will look better and fit in more to my music advertisement. I decided that it looked best at the bottom of the advertisement next to the image of the music production.

I wanted to use The Script's website on my music advertisement, so I went onto the artists actual website and wrote the website address onto my advertisement. I think this makes my advertisement more realistic.

Stage seven
I eventually decided to have the website address at the bottom of my advertisement as this looked better rather than all the writing being grouped together. I changed the writing to red to make it stand out compared to the rest of the text, and to make it stand out because it's at the bottom. I am pleased with how my music advertisement is coming along so far, and I really like how I edited Liam to look posterized as i think it makes the rest of the advertisement look better. I also like the variety of texts that I have used, as I think it still looks simple, but the variety of text makes it look more interesting and creative.
I will now play with the positions of ratings, and decide whether to position them between the text and picture of the digipak, or above the text in the gap that is there.

Creating The Text

Stage Four
After establishing what text I wanted on my advertisement, I played around with the positions of the text, how big it would be and what colours I will choose to use.

Stage Five
Eventually I decided on having The Script across the top of the advertisement in the biggest text, so this would promote the name of the artist straight to the audience. I chose italics to go underneath The Script as I thought that it looked professional. I made the words 'OUT NOW' into capitals as this straight away promotes to the audience that the album can be bought now. I also changed the writing here to blue to make it stand out even more.

Screenshots Of Progress

Stage One
I opened up an A4 size paper, and rotated it using Image-> Rotate-> 90 to make it landscape. I then went onto Bridge and selected the same background that I used for my CD Digipak. I had to decide what picture of my artist to use on my digipak. I selected the one from Bridge, and then I had to use the lasso tool to cut out the background, and then drag it onto my page. I was left with a lot of rough images, and some of the background, so I then used the eraser tool to rub them out, and used a softer, smaller eraser around the edges, as this is my opinion creates a smoother effect, and then the edges are not jagged. I then positioned the artist where I wanted him on the page, although I may change this as the production progresses.

Stage Two
After opening my final digipak open again, I print-screened the front cover, and then opened it onto my advertisement using Bridge. I experimented with having an outline around the CD cover to make it look better, but after considering it, I thought it looked better without it as it blends in more to the page, although it is possible to distinguish the image from the advertisement too. I made it big enough that it stands out and promotes the album, however I also left room for the text, the ratings and the record label.

Stage Three

I decided that the image of the artist would look better if I manipulated the image, and I selected Posterize. I thought this worked well because it fit the theme of the poster. I will also think of other effects that I could use to make the advertisement look effective.

Starting My Music Advertisement

Now that I have completed my CD Digipak, I am able to move onto completing my music magazine advertisement. From looking at different music advertisements by The Script, I was able to see that the music advertisements for them I know to keep it simple like my digipak. Instead of practicing a advertisement, I have began on my final one straight away, as I feel I have learnt lots of techniques from doing my digipak. I plan to have an image of the artist again, and then have an image of the front cover of my digipak on the right hand side of the advertisement. I then will have similar text to the writing on the digipak so I can link it together. I then will have ratings where I will look for real ratings on the internet, and the music company (sony music) around the image of the digipak.
I am hoping that the final product will look effective and realistic.

Priorities For This Term

To ensure that I complete all the work that I need to, I have identified the main things that I need to have completed by the end of term;

  • Completing my filming
  • Start my second ancilliary task (music advertisment)
  • Complete more editing - add more effects/transtions
I am confident that I will be able to complete these aims, as I plan to film more soon, and that would be almost all of my filming finished. The filming after this would only be a tiny bit and would be able to be completed during school time. I will be able to start my second ancilliary task in the next lesson, as I have already completed the first one (digipak). I have already edited the footage that I already have, so when I get more footage I will be able to edit this effectively around the rest of my footage.

Experimenting With Different Angles

For part of the lip syncing in my video, I decided that I wanted a change of different angles when he is lip syncing because I thought it would look better. I started with a mid shot with him sitting on the bed, and then cut it to a close up from a side angle, and then back again. I thought this looked good, because the image changes rather than being just one shot.

Experimenting With Effects

When I done the research and planning for my music video,  I had decided to edit some of the footage into black and white, as I thought it would look effective and may help to reflect the mood. I experimented in a section of the lip syncing, and thought it looked effective, so I will definitely use this in my music video.

I used Effects -> Video Filters -> Image Control -> Desaturate to change it into black and white.

Editing Another Section Of The Video

I had a number of shots for this section of the song, and I had to decide which one worked better. One shot looked too dark and another angle didn't look quite right so I decided on the third angle.

The next part of lip syncing that I recorded was for the chorus. I arranged the camera so that he was in the left of the frame and at a mid shot so it was different from the other lip syncing. I plan to use this same part of footage on the next chorus as I think that this looked effective.

This is a shot that I improvised when I was filming.  As my actors where eating dinner during filming, I thought that it would be good to film them doing this, as I could include this as a flashback scene from when the couple where together.

Editing The Start Of The Video

To start with I wanted to select the piece of footage that I wanted to use for the opening of the video. I chose to start with the part where the persons lying on the bed thinking, and I chose to do this one first as it establishes the general mood to the audience right from the start of the video. This is also a fairly wide shot and gives the audience information on the setting.

I chose the correct place to start with, and the length of the shot that I thought was appropriate, cut it and inserted it into my timeline.

After then including different shots of him lying on the bed, I inserted a close up of the photo album he is holding and the photograph he is holding. This connotes to the audience that he is upset after a break-up.

The next part of footage I had was the lip-syncing to the first verse. I cut out the part of him lip-syncing and inserted it into my timeline and then i had to place it in the right section of the song so the lip syncing matched the words of the lyrics correctly.
